Kathleen Bernardi, Why I Write My Blog – Part 3
Consider these facts:
- Mercury is the most poisonous, non-radioactive, naturally occurring substance on our planet
- There is no safe or harmless level of mercury. Just one atom of mercury is harmful to our bodies
- Mercury fillings continuously release poisonous mercury vapor.
- Mercury fillings are the single greatest source of mercury exposure
- The first exposure to mercury from amalgam fillings can occur at the moment of conception
- Mercury can pass through the placenta to the fetus and through breast milk to nursing babies
There has been much controversy over the years as to the safety of mercury fillings and most dental professionals have assumed their position on their safety based on the American Dental Association’s position which I will discuss shortly.
The good news is; many dentists no longer place mercury fillings relying instead on a number of “white-filling” alternatives because they are a better choice aesthetically and functionally nowadays. What is of concern however is how mercury fillings that people still have in their mouth react to their surrounding environment and if they need to be replaced the protocol for their removal.
Most people would agree that a material that has these kinds of side effects should at the very least be studied and monitored especially when so many people are walking around with an abundance of it in their mouths.
So, just what is the American Dental Association’s stand on mercury in the mouth? Following is an excerpt taken directly from their website:
Used by dentists for more than a century, dental amalgam is the most thoroughly researched and tested restorative material among all those in use. It is durable, easy to use, highly resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive in comparison to other materials. For those reasons, it remains a valued treatment option for dentists and their patients.
Dental amalgam is a stable alloy made by combining elemental mercury, silver, tin, copper and possibly other metallic elements. Although dental amalgam continues to be a safe, commonly used restorative material, some concern has been raised because of its mercury content. However, the mercury in amalgam combines with other metals to render it stable and safe for use in filling teeth.
While questions have arisen about the safety of dental amalgam relating to its mercury content, the major U.S. and international scientific and health bodies, including the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Public Health Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization, among others have been satisfied that dental amalgam is a safe, reliable and effective restorative material.
Next week I would like to discuss an entirely opposite view of mercury amalgam supported by many experts in the world that is based on sound scientific theory.
Remember please, that a blog is a somewhat different format for information dissemination and should anyone wish to discuss where this information and any studies relating to this information may be found, I would be more than happy to oblige.
I would love to get your feedback. Here on my blog, you’ll get commentluv. That’s a plug in that allows you to leave a link back to your own blog when you leave a comment.
Keep Smiling !

hello Kathleen…my name is john…i stumbled upon your blog as i was googling Mercury Filling….anyways i’ve always been interested in discussions about mercury filling…and i’ve heard, seen, read about it from both sides (safe and unsafe). I have mercury filling on one of my teeth (molar?) and i’ve had it for years and years…i saw this tv magazine show on NBC years ago about the “dangers” of mercury filling and removing them would actually “kill” the patient or atleast is dangerous…i wanted to have these fillings removed but i fear that i might be putting myself at risk more than good…and when i go to a dentist ( i go to diffrent dental clinics all the time) i ask them abotu it but i Always get shrugs and replies like ” no dont worry about it”….although i do like to think that mercury filling is safe since i’ve had it for years and i haven’t noticed any signs or effects caused by mercury poisoning…i know that mercury poisoning could cause low IQ….i’m not that smart but i don’t think i could blame mercury for it…and my mercury filling has been really stable and effective…i’ve had fillings on my other teeth and they’re not mercury and they chip off….anyways i do hope i’m safe with my mercury filling…if u must reply please send it to my email….thanks.
It is interesting to note that dentists also endorse the use of another highly neurotoxic substance which is also very carcinogenic, namely fluoride, in drinking water supplies and toothpaste.
So-called silver amalgams contain 50% of mercury. Medical doctors promote vaccines some of which contain Thiomersal as a preservative, which is 49.6% mercury.
It therefore appears that dentists and doctors have been poisoning us and our children for decades now, while claiming that mercury and fluoride are safe.
As Voltaire once pointed out, “The world is a mental asylum run by its worst inmates.”
Hi Erwin,
Thanks for your comment and in particular your Voltaire quote. I totally agree with everything you say and would like to leave you with another quote in response:
An educated person is one who has learned that information almost always turns out to be at best incomplete and very often false, misleading, fictitious, mendacious – just dead wrong. ~R. Baker

Hi John and thanks for your comment!
I believe that because we are all different people with different genes, lifestyles, habits and immune systems what affects one person may not affect another the same way.
